What is Backlink?
Backlink is simply linking one page or website with another page or website. Google use backlink as a sign of “trust”. If your page has more backlinks that means people trust your content and Google upvotes that content and makes your page or content rank on the first page of search results.
There is a little confusion among people that if they link their page with someone else page then will they get the backlink?
So here is a simple answer, If somebody links his page with your’s then you will get a backlink and if you link your page to someone else then he will get the backlink.
Is it really important to create backlinks?
Well as I mentioned in the first paragraph that Google use backlinks as a major factor in ranking the page in the search result. With more backlinks, one could have more chances of his page ranking on Google.
Types of Backlinks
Generally, backlinks are of two types- “DoFollow” and “NoFollow”.
NoFollow links are not that useful and don’t have any important role in improving ranking and SEO. One of the best examples of NoFollow backlink is a “Blog Comment”. When you comment on a blog and add your website then it acts as a NoFollow backlink. This backlink is considered an ignored link.
Google and other search engines generally ignore the “NoFollow” backlinks.
“DoFollow” links are important. They help in improving SEO and improving the ranking of pages. Everybody wants these types of links but sometimes these links can also have a bad effect on your site. DoFollow backlinks from a site that has violated Google policy will have a bad effect on your site and will increase your spam score.
How to check backlinks?
Checking backlinks and maintaining high-quality backlinks are also necessary tasks to do. For checking backlinks there are so many paid and unpaid tools that one can use. Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ubersuggest, and ahrefs are some of the tools.
For checking backlinks in Google Search Console, follow the steps
Step 1: Log in to your Google Search Console
Step 2: On the left sidebar you will see the option labeled as “Links”. Click on that.
Step 3: There will be links mentioned under “External Link”. Click on “more” to get a list of all the backlinks.
Step 4: You can also see the top linked sites below the “External Link” section.
It is important to check the backlink because if you take backlinks from someone who has violated Google rules or used toxic ways to improve their website SEO then Google will penalize them and this will also affect your website as you have taken a backlink from the. So, it’s better to choose someone trusted and with less spam score to make backlinks.
One high-quality backlink is more helpful in increasing SEO than 100 low-quality backlinks.
How to get backlinks?
Getting a backlink is a quite difficult task. And if you are new to this field then you have to earn them.
There are the following ways you can do to get backlinks:
You should write truly useful content so that it ranks on Google Search results. When your content ranks on Google search results then people link their site with you to increase their ranking. You can also promote your content on social media and get backlinks from there.
Try to write “How to” content that is useful to people. “How to” contents are more backlinks deriving factors for any website or blog.
Do guest posting on other’s site.
Check out your content which is ranking on Google and update them and add more details to them.
Finding deadlinks on other’s websites is also a way: You can find deadlinks on other’s websites and after that try to reach the blog owner and ask them to replace that deadlink with your active link.
You can also create backlinks for yourself by Blog Commenting ( even though they are “nofollow” backlinks )
You can also directly email another blog owner to link your blog to a similar post. Here I am sharing a format of how to approach another blogger for backlinks. (This format is on the basis of emails that have been received for backlinks)
